Ginkaku-ji Kyoto – The Silver Pavilion at Kyoto Prefecture, Japan

Ginkaku-ji (The Silver Pavilion)located at 2 Ginkakujicho, Sakyo Ward, Kyoto, Kyoto Prefecture 606-8402, Japan.
Opening Hours: Open daily from 8.30am – 5pm (9am – 4.30pm in Dec – Feb).
Fee: ¥500

Ginkakuji (銀閣寺, Silver Pavilion) is a Zen temple along Kyoto’s eastern mountains (Higashiyama). In 1482, shogun Ashikaga built his retirement villa on the grounds of today’s temple, modeling it after Kinkakuji (Golden Pavilion), his grandfather’s retirement villa at the base of Kyoto’s northern mountains (Kitayama).

How to get there:

  • By Train: Kyoto Station by bus numbers 5, 17 and 100. Get off at Ginkaku-ji Michi bus stop
